The Alkaya Rug

The Alkaya is not a rug you buy casually. It is a rug you choose — the way you choose a painting, a watch, a home. Hand-knotted in Bhadohi, each knot tied individually by artisans whose families have practised this craft for generations. A single 6×9 ft Alkaya takes weeks to complete. You are not paying for material alone. You are paying for time, skill, and devotion.

The traditional pattern carries echoes of Persian court carpets adapted through the lens of Indian sensibility — warmer tones, softer geometry, a character that feels inherited rather than imported.

Pure New Zealand Wool, hand-knotted at a density that gives the rug substantial weight and a surface texture that photographs cannot fully capture. This is the kind of rug people cross a room to touch.
